Job Title: Machinist

Primary Function of the Position: Operates machine tools to perform a variety of routine machine operations on a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment using established procedures. Performs electrical welding and burning operations and demonstrates proficiency in the operation of machines.

Job Duties: In addition to the duties of an Associate Machinist, specific additional duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Receive oral and written instruction from supervisor or designated representative.
•Interprets drawings or works from drawings, sketches, samples or data.
•Sets up and operates machine tools to make repairs and parts where dimensions and tolerances are close and critical. Makes necessary calculations for tapers, thread hole locations and fits.
•Makes and /or modifies jigs, fixtures, and templates from drawings, sketches and/or samples.
•Machines shafts and modifies housings to fit bearings as required. Must be able to define tolerances.
•Sets up and straightens shafts using presses, heat, etc., as required.
•Regrinds, sharpens, and repairs tooling as necessary to complete assigned work.
•Sets up and pours babbit bearing, determining the fixtures and procedures required to do this safely. Sets and machines the bearings to the proper sizes and tolerances.
•Sets up and performs alignment to rotating equipment.
•Sets up and dynamically balance equipment as required.
•Perform record keeping tasks relating to repair evaluations, work performed, material used, test results, and time expended on repairs and service.
•Other tasks or duties assigned by management that are commensurate with the skills, knowledge, and abilities demonstrated.
•Must continue to participate in the training of others and provide guidance to others of equal or lower job classification.

Tools and Equipment: Lathes, milling machines, hydraulic presses, undercutting equipment, spray metalizing equipment, balancing equipment, alignment gear, saws, electric and gas welding equipment, cranes, all types of precision measuring equipment, hand and power tools and equipment, and all required safety equipment.

Hours: 6:30AM to 3:00PM or 3PM to 11:30PM. Monday through Friday. Overtime is frequently necessary and is mandatory as business conditions dictate.

Additional requirements:
•A.S. Degree in Machine Tool Technology or minimum of 5 years experience in a machine shop environment.
•Must be able to weld, certification preferred.
•Valid Driver License.
•Ability to read blueprints.
•Physically able to handle equipment, material and parts in excess of 50 lbs. Also able to work long hours in unpleasant conditions.
